I have been busy weaving some scarves, using combinations of cotton and silk or linen and silk with some small amounts of wool. The wool is washed to shrink it and create an interesting texture. I am not sure how well my scarves will be liked and possibly sold, as with other artists or crafters time will tell at the sale. My friend Arlene and I will be at Doncaster School on November 25th. I have just returned from a fabulous trip to Peru. My friend Cathy and I visited many ruins including Machu Picchu. We went to Parakas and flew over the Nasca Lines and then on a boat to a bird sanctuary on the Isle of Ballastas. We were on buses, trains and planes to see the many sights of Peru. It was a busy but very interesting trip. With weaving in mind, I had to visit a textile co operative just outside of Cusco, where the women learn to weave the traditional way with the traditional patterns. We also went to the Textile Museum in Lima. It is worth going as many of the textiles are over 1,000 years old, with displays of each tribes weaving style. The threads were so fine and many hand manipulated so that it would have taken months to weave. |
